Last month, the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH), in conjunction with numerous public and private partners, unveiled a new media campaign— MI Healthier Tomorrow — meant to provide a unified message on healthy living for Michiganders. The campaign is the social media component of the department’s larger Michigan Health and Wellness 4 x 4 Plan, which calls for the practice of four key healthy behaviors:  maintain a healthy diet, engage in regular exercise, get an annual physical examination and avoid tobacco use and exposure. It also encourages the tracking of four key health measures:  body mass index, blood pressure, cholesterol level and blood glucose level.

With a slogan of “Today is the day I choose a healthier future,” the new media campaign asks Michigan adults to pledge to lose 10% of their body weight in order to “make significant improvements to both [one’s] physical and mental health.” Those who sign the pledge will receive email tips on healthy living. A Facebook page encourages people to share when they’ve signed the pledge and what they are doing to live healthier.
