New Farmers’ Markets Grants to Michigan
USDA recently announced recipients of its 2012 Farmers Market Promotion Program grants. Michigan was awarded eight grants totaling $420,000 of a nationwide total of $9 million to 130 projects in 39 states:
YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids — Marketing to promote food assistance benefit use at two farmers’ markets.
Dixboro Village Green, Ann Arbor — Expansion of the Dixboro Farmers Market.
ProMedica Bixby Hospital, Adrian — For a mobile market and increasing local foods in corner stores.
Berrian-Cass-Van Buren Workforce Development Board, Benton Harbor — Developing a collective marketing group and agritourism brand for area producers.
City of Warren — Improve healthy local food access with a new farmers’ market, electronic benefit processing, and educational outreach.
People’s Education for a Sustainable Future, Kalamazoo — Expanding and staffing the Douglass Farmers Market.
City of Westland — Implement a transportation initiative and promotional campaign to increase use of the Westland Farmers Market.
