On November 20th, approximately 200 people gathered at the Michigan State University Kellogg Center to celebrate the Michigan Harvest Gathering event. The annual campaign unites people from all over the state to increase capacity of Michigan’s emergency food system. The 2013 theme – “23 Years of Help and Hope for the Hungry” – commemorated all organizations and individuals whose exponential impact reduces hunger in Michigan.

Michelle-Napier Dunnings received the Bridge Award for having demonstrated creative collaboration to focus on the goal of increasing food access and hunger awareness. Ruligh Farms & Gardens received the Golden Harvest award for providing a bounty of their harvest to hungry people in Michigan. Many more individuals and organizations – like the Family Health Center in Battle Creek and the Trinity Lutheran Community Food Pantry – received the Beacon of Light awards for their positive impact in contributing to a hunger-free Michigan.
