Keeping Tabs on State Policies and Programs

Michigan Food Hub Network Formalizes:

A second statewide meeting of people interested in food hubs in Michigan took place on March 8, 2012. The emerging group is formalizing as the Michigan Food Hub Learning and Innovation Network. The MSU Center for Regional Food Systems (CRFS) will take on the role of coordinating the network. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) will provide technical training and support. CRFS is seeking grant funds to support the statewide network. Some state funding for a food hub grant program and staff support at MDARD is also expected. Negotiations between House and Senate versions of the Governor’s budget are currently taking place. A final state budget is expected by June 1 and the release of a request for proposals is expected later the same month.
